About KLM

The Air France-KLM Group is the largest airline in the world in terms of operating revenues. The company is part of the SkyTeam alliance, partnering nine carriers from three continents. From April 2004 until March 2005, KLM carried over 20 million passengers, with a trend showing continued growth.

Why GlobalCollect?

KLM has designed a clear online strategy targeting consumers in over 60 countries and is determined to achieve the goal of 40% of its sales volume received directly online by 2009.

Since the middle of 2005, KLM began offering localized payment methods by country in order to maximize the number of orders and payments received online. KLM found a dedicated partner in GlobalCollect, with our large global banking network and wide international acceptance of local payment methods.

By accepting GlobalCollect’s multiple payment methods KLM is able to reach the market segment of customers that do not have a credit card or do not want to use one online.  At the end of July 2006, KLM started to accept iDEAL, the Dutch real-time bank transfer scheme. Within a few weeks, iDEAL represented about 60% of alternative payments to KLM from within the Netherlands.

By offering alternative payment options, KLM has been able to increase its consumer base in the countries where alternative methods are popular. According to Maarten Rooijers, E-Payment Manager at KLM, “Alternatives to credit card payments have contributed to an increase in KLM’s online sales.”
